LEND A BREATH - TRAVELLING EDITION

Co-creational performance art - from place to place around the world

Everyone is breathing

We all share the air

around us, inside us

How can this invisible community become visible?

What is the Shape of Breath?

With an Expression of Breath in our hands,

how do we experience this shared and unseen?

We call the glass shape Expression of Breath. The unique sculpture captures the dialogue between the person blowing into a gather of glass and the glass's response to that breath. The glass's rapid transition from liquid and hot to cold and hard glass makes it possible to preserve this moment.

Performance instruction:

Take the glass sculpture out for a walk

Find a place

Explore the Expression of Breath

Bring it back

Q: How long will my performance be?

A: It is okay to calculate a minimum of 30 minutes, but you decide for yourself whether it should last a few minutes or several hours.

Q: What should I do?

A: You follow the instructions for the performance. If you need more inspiration to do your performance, listen to the audioguides (see below). Use your own headphones. Your contribution will be part of the long-durational performance work Lend a Breath - Traveling Edition. For more Q&A - see below.

Q&A

Q: Can I take the glass sculpture out for a walk outside the building?

Yes. We trust you.

Q: Where should I do my performance?

A: You choose a place nearby.

Q: What do I do with the box during my performance?

A: The box can be left with the top open on Lend a Breath's location at the Library.

Q: When do I have to return it?

A: When you are done. Follow the instructions given by the Folkhögskola.

Q: What is performance art?

A: In visual art, performance art is a work of art that takes place in time and space, and the expression often alternates between different art forms. The key is physical actions by the artists and / or co-creative audiences. No fictional world is created, but the real events that take place on the site are the work of art itself.

Q: If I feel like it, where do I share my experience?

A: Please use #lendabreath and #lendabreathtravellingedition on Instagram, send us a message on Facebook @frantzsenmjanger or email us at frantzsenmjanger@gmail.com.
